NSAC: A Student Perspective

I started getting intrigued by the National Student Advertising Competition from Robin Spring, when she talked about it in February 2021 during an Advertising Club executive board meeting. Everyone on the team that was also on the executive board was encouraging everyone to get involved and be a part of it! I honestly had no idea what NSAC was or how it worked. I decided to set up an office hours appointment with Robin to talk about the logistics of the team and how the whole process worked. I thought that this was a great opportunity for me to get a taste of what it is actually like to work in a fast-paced advertising industry. From there, I was instantly inspired and decided to put in the application from the team and I was selected to be on the 2021-2022 team!

I walked in to the first day of class and I felt instantly inspired, and slightly nervous, about the amount of talent in the room, I started to doubt my abilities and didn’t think I was going to succeed in a room full of mostly seniors and some of them had been on the team the year prior. As we started to get going on the campaign, I realized that it doesn’t matter how old you are or how experienced you might be, all that matters is that you are a fully dedicated student who is ready to take on the challenges that are presented to you throughout the campaign process. We are a team that is always there to help one another inside and outside the classroom when we struggle to find a solution to needing help on a homework assignment from another class.

From being on this team, I have learned a lot about how to work in a fast paced, team advertising environment. This has really prepared me for the real-world as I will be able to take the skills I have learned and apply them

to internships and entry-level positions in the future. I have learned a lot about myself within the past few months and I have been able to grow my skill set and gain more confidence in myself which has inspired me to go towards my career goals. I highly encourage anyone who is remotely interested in the National Student Advertising Competition to go for it! It was one of the best decisions I have made throughout my college career and I hope I get the opportunity to be on the team next year!
