Are you a big Marvel fan? Do you love music or design? Well, our guest speaker for this Thursday, September 15th, is none other than Seth Henderson! He has provided artwork and props for major films including:
- Guardians of the Galaxy 2
- Avengers 3: Infinity War
- Spiderman: Homecoming
- And so much more!
Seth is a graphic designer and concept artist with some impressive 3D modeling skills. He currently works as a Senior Graphic Designer for the Grand Rapids Symphony. While Seth has gained experience through a variety of jobs, his path was not always clear-cut.
“Life can be tough; Careers can be tough, and change is inevitable…. I have lived, worked, and adapted to those changes. From marine biologist with the GA Aquarium to prop fabricator for Marvel Studios to graphic artist with the Grand Rapids Symphony… career changes happened, more than I would have liked, but I moved forward into what I call “The New Normal.”
Here are a few photos illustrating the career changes Seth has had. The first photo shows Seth holding the famous Marvel Hammer. The second photo shows him hanging out with a sea lion. How cool is that?
At our meeting this Thursday, Seth will be diving into his experience and how big changes have shaped his careers. “It’s not the end of the world, it’s just the next step.” Being students during a pandemic, we’re all too familiar with change. Professionals experience it too, and it doesn’t have to be as scary as we imagine!
This meeting also provides an opportunity to hear more about what the duties of a graphic designer are, and ask questions about the field. As a graphic designer, Seth has to use his artistic capabilities to inform consumers, communicate ideas clearly, and solve issues that may arise. His main goal is to have his designs effectively communicate the message he is trying to convey. This means that Seth needs to create something visually engaging enough to catch his audience’s attention. It also means he’s responsible for keeping up to date on the latest trends and technologies.
Hear from Seth Henderson on his experience at Marvel, the Grand Rapids Symphony, and his advice on change! He will be in LOH Room 174 at 6 pm on Thursday. We look forward to seeing you there!
